Welcome to the 2011-2012 Arizona Odyssey of the Mind. We look forward to another exciting year in the Central Region. Please remember to refer to this website on an ongoing basis during the year. ODYSSEY OF THE MIND FUN FACTS FOR THE CENTRAL REGION

1) International Membership Registration:

Each school must first obtain their International Membership Registration.

To Register:

Go to odysseyofthemind.com website

Click on registration tab.

Each school only needs to purchase one (1) membership unless you are planning on having 2 teams compete in the same problem & same division (i.e. two Division 2 teams competing in the vehicle problem).

This year’s problems will be mailed out when available & after your school is registered & payment is received.

2) State Registration:

A school is required to register online each & every team that will be competing in the Central Region Tournament. Registration will be open in the fall. Please keep referring to the azodyssey.org website.

State Registration is done on line. To Register:

Go to the azodyssey.org website & click on registration tab.

Each team planning on competing will need to register.

Deadline for state registration will be January 14, 2012. You will need to register all teams planning on competing at regional tournament by that date. Registration after the deadline date will be at the discretion of the Central Regional Director (me) and would need to pay a $50 late fee (Fees are subject to change without notice).

IMPORTANT DATES

(See the Key Dates link on the www.azodyssey.org website for more information & to register for trainings & workshops)

Coaches Training - Saturday, November 5, 2011 at San Tan Learning Center.

Spontanaeous/Style Workshop - Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Desert Sun Elemantary School.

Judges Training - 4 hour training in February 2012 - Exact Date & Location yet to be determined.

Central Region Tournament - All day event in March 2012 - Exact Date & Location yet to be determined.

COACHES - DID YOU KNOW……

That you will NOT receive this year’s problems until you have paid your International Membership registration fee. Problem synopses are just that. They are not the problem. Coaches/Teams need to read the actual problem for full details. Read & re-read the problem.

To know the rules! It is your responsibility. This will spare teams/coaches undue hardship at tournament. The 2011-2012 Problem Guide has all the rules & is very important to review.

That additional resources can be found under the www.azodyssey.org & www.odysseyofthemind.com websites.

That Tournaments are large events that take many volunteers. Each TEAM competing must provide the following:

* One (1) volunteer to be trained as a judge. Judges are required to attend a 4 hour training course in February (see date above). Deadline for registering judges will be January 31, 2012.

AND

* One (1) volunteer to be a worker the day of the Central Region tournament. Tournament workers only need to show up & work a 2 hour shift the day of the tournament.

* A $50 penalty fee will be assessed for each volunteer not provided by a team. (Fees subject to change without notice) We don’t want your money, we need your volunteers.

There are trainings & workshops are offered to assist coaches & teams. Plan to take advantage of these opportunities. In addition, helpful emails will be sent from the regional director (me) as we get closer to tournament.

To read emails carefully. Helpful emails will be sent from the regional director (me) as we get closer to tournament. These emails are designed to help teams/coaches from making commonly made mistakes.

To have fun! Odyssey of the Mind is not about winning. It is about developing life long skills as a creative, problem-solver.

Good luck teams! See you at the Central Region Tournament. J
